5 Habits To Become A Better Photographer

Improving as a photographer is one of the tasks that all of us who dedicate ourselves to this world desire. Achieving it is not always easy, and that is why, in this new post, we would like to share five habits that will help you improve your photography and to be prepared to prevent and face any unforeseeable situation that you may encounter.

1. Check the equipment before leaving

You happily arrive at an event or the place where you want to photograph, you take out the camera and start shooting. All of the sudden... surprise! The memory card is full after a couple of shots and the battery is about to run out. 

Can you relate to this situation? Forgetting about this type of things happens more than we would like to admit, but it has an easy solution: check and make sure before leaving that you have everything you need and in the correct condition.

2. Research and plan

What kind of images do you want to capture? Where are you going to photograph? Are the weather conditions favorable? Is the terrain / place where you are going to work stable or bright enough? If you are going to take a photo of the sunset, for instance, do you know what time the sun sets?

Before starting a photo session, it never hurts to ask yourself some of these questions and do a little research to get better images and not get any unwanted surprises.

But don't stress yourself over it either, because improvising can also be fun sometimes.

3. Select a shooting mode according to the situation

In general, we encourage you to use the manual mode of the camera. Playing with the parameters and adjusting them to each situation will make your photography skills evolve much faster.

However, we understand that there are situations where you have to shoot quickly to capture something fleeting or unexpected. In these types of scenarios, using the automatic or semi-automatic mode can be quite helpful. Therefore, knowing the available shooting modes and knowing when it is time to use each of them is essential to work properly in each situation that comes our way.

4. Enjoy art in its different forms and stimulate your mind

A photograph is the result of the photographer's experience and creativity. Therefore, a tip to continue stimulating and cultivating your mind is to explore and enjoy art in all its forms: from reading books or watching movies, to attending exhibitions and museums, or participating in photography workshops and forums.

In addition, we recommend you establish relationships with other photographers to share experiences, techniques ... and feel closer to the world of photography. The idea is to absorb images to learn, get inspired and develop our creativity.

5. Practice photography every single day

There is no better way to hone our photography skills than to try and fail, try and fail… until we are satisfied with what we capture. Another way to evolve is to challenge ourselves. For example, you can practice photography with different types of cameras or if you do not control or have never tried a technique, you can challenge yourself to master it.

With habits, it is always easier said than done, but we promise that adopting some of them in your routine will help you reach your goals much faster.
